For Parents

Something just for you.

Here’s how I keep us on time and on track so not a cent is wasted.

The Problem is complex but the Solution is simple.

It has never been more competitive to get into college, and your student needs to stand out from the ever-growing crowd. Great grades, perfect test scores, quirky activities list… everybody has them.

Everybody also has one shot to make admissions counselors want to fight for them in committee – the essay. The essay has to be perfect – but your student won’t let you read their work.

So you either:

  • Trust them to do their best and hope it works out, or;
  • Force them to let you help, or;
  • Hire me to solve the problem (and keep your kids on speaking terms with you).

If you hire me, I can promise you:

No More Nagging

You hate having to dedicate mental space to keeping your student on track, and they hate being nagged.

I do my work in real time, weekly, on a schedule, to make sure your student’s essays are written, revised and completed well before they are due. I don’t give your student extra homework to manage – we are building in an hour a week to get this work done. This frees up everyone’s mental space, makes sure that no time is wasted, and gets the work done on time.

Toned-Down Anxiety

If you try to help with the essays, your student is going to write in a way that protects themselves from your scrutiny. That makes for a very anxious process and, even worse, that results in bland, forgettable essays.

But if I’m helping them, you don’t have to worry that the work is good (or even being done). And your student doesn’t have to worry about feeling judged for their honest answers, or about a secret being unearthed, or some other thing they’d rather not share with you because… they’re a teenager and no matter what they say, they do care what you think of them.

Accountability

If your child doesn’t show up for our scheduled meetings, I will let you know. If you have questions or want to talk to me to make sure I have some crucial information or context, I reserve the last five minutes of every weekly writing session for parents to jump in and chat with me and the student together. We can also schedule a call, just you and me, if you really think that’s necessary.

Healthy Boundaries

I’m not going to share your student’s essay with you. That’s an important commitment that I make to your student and allows us to build trust so we can write their best essay. I will, however, encourage your student to share the essays with you. By then, in my experience, the student is usually confident enough in their voice and story to let their parents read the final product.
